Encyclopedia

moneytheism, belief in the existence of one money, or in the oneness of money. As such, it is distinguished from shitcoinerytheism, the belief in the existence of many monies; from fiatism, the belief that money is whatever the central bank printed this morning; and from nocoinerism, the belief that the whole thing is unknowable and probably a bubble. Moneytheism characterizes the tradition of Bitcoin, whose prophet published a nine-page scripture in 2008 and then, unusually for the founder of a religion, vanished without cashing out. Elements of the belief are discernible in anyone who says they are “in it for the technology” and then checks the price.
